W7A/PE-075 (Baldy Peak)

This was supposed to be one of two summits done that day, unfortunately the wind and an open wound on my thumb prevented me from doing another one. This is one of a few remote summits in this area. Although I did not have to drive as long or far on the dirt roads as the two summits before this one, the drive to this one was still rough and slow. The remote locations and rough travel makes getting more than one of these summits done each trip the best way to go. This peak, like others in this area was/is used as a lookout spot likely for illegal activity. Illegal border crossers do not usually climb over peaks, so the trash up there is likely left by someone staying up there. This peak is an old lava formation, so the hike up is like trying to get footing on sharp bowling balls. Good footing on each step is mandatory, although the ground, being what it is, can slide out from under you anyway.

This is what happens when you try to stop your fall by reaching back onto sharp lava rocks.
