W7A/PE-077 (Brens Better)

The plan for the day was to activate two summmits, this one and W7A/PE-068 (Golden Gate Mountain). The two summits sit on opposite sides of the trail in Tucson Mountain Park. I usually plan my trips a day or two before in advance, which I did not do this time. I found out that the route I took to the summit was the most difficult and dangerous; Oh well, live and learn. The bands were terrible and even though RBN was able to pick me up, I did not make any contacts on 40 or 20 meters. I moved to 30M, a band I seldom use and managed to get 5 contacts. After quite a bit of trying I decided to head back down. It was then, that I realized I had my work cut out for me. The trip down was very steep and gravel fields that I had no issue with coming up, had me slipping and sliding with a couple of falls mixed in on the way down. I decided that the best course of action was to sit down and just "scootch" through these. While in a "crab" position, I took two "scary fun" luge rides, that I was thankfully able to stop before dropping off the edge. Once I reached the trail, I decided based on the heat (over 100), high humidity, terrible bands and a completely destroyed pair of pants (see the "Equipment" section for my latest homebrew gear for destroyed pants), I decided that only one summit was going to happen.
