Confederate Graves & W7A/CO-055 (6570)

On the north side of the Dragoon Mountain range there are 3 summits running from southwest to Northeast; this summit is the furthest southwest.

There is some interesting history at this location. At the base of the summit are the ruins of an old Butterfield stage stop. Also at this location are the graves of the only confederate soldiers killed in the state of Arizona. The ruins and graves are an easy walk from a 2WD road. As the road goes into Dragoon Springs, it becomes a 4WD road. I opted to start my hike at this location, but for those who want to make it a bit easier and who have 4WD, you can take the dirt road to Dragoon Springs and make the climb from there. The summit is a bit on the tough side. It is rocky terrain, with quite a bit of scrambling toward the end. I think the next time I climb this one I will take it from the north side and see if that is any easier.
